We created this Recruit-a-thon recruitment prototype in the context of a self-managed organization. However, this can be executed in any type of organization. The purpose of this prototype to use the collective power of all the participating employees to find new talent. Using the Hackathon as a metaphor and method. A hackathon is an intensive competition of maximum 24-48 hours with a defined scope or assignment. It's originally used for computer and web programmers.
So, now we take that method and use it for recruitment purposes. `As a result, you get the 'recruit-a-thon' recruitment prototype. An intensive competition for teams of employees to find the best new talent in a short timeframe. This decreases the time-to-hire and above all increases employee engagement.
What steps to take for the practice
Start by designing the recruit-a-thon. Think about:
Tools. What tools do you offer to use. For example LinkedIn (premium) or Glassdoor
Method of competition
What talents are we looking for? Make sure everyone knows what you are looking for.
Timeframe. Set a maximum timeframe for the hackaton. We did 4 hours
Rules of the game. When do you earn points? When someone accepted an job offer, or when someone responded to your first message.
and don't forget the prizes!
Generate excitement and announce the recruit-a-thon big time
Hold the recruit-a-thon, the way you designed it
Afterward, make sure that everyone knows the successes and learnings. And decide if this is a one-time gig or a returning one
You've turned your colleagues into recruiters
Increased employee engagement
Do you want to know if this practice shows results? Start measuring!
