With autonomy comes responsibility. Just like driving a Ferrari, you have more horsepower (pun intended) so you have more responsibility. But in most organizations employees don’t have that much power, they feel like they drive an old bicycle with training wheels. Because of all the rules and control mechanisms, or bureaucracy. Give your employees more autonomy and responsibility by applying ‘The Ferrari Rule’. Because we rather like to see our organization as a Ferrari than an old bicycle.
What steps to take for the practice
Take a look at your company. Do you feel a sense of people being limited by control, or by limitations? By lack of clarity? Or even fear? That´s like turning Ferraris into bicycles.
Use the analogy of “be a Ferrari” to empower the whole organization. Letting people drive on highways, giving them path and way, and in the end, bringing this great potential of power on the street. Just do what you think is needed. It is more difficult to stop someone than to execute a new idea.
